Personally, I would have voted for Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) for the role of Stephanie, as she can do kooky and better fits the physical description of Stephanie from the books. Now, I wonder who they'll get to play Ranger and Morelli??
My favorite series and you just killed my greatest hope of seing this series come to life visually by casting Heigle as the lead. Really left cold and clammy.

I have read every book and run to the store as soon as a new one hits the shelf. I have always thought Sandra Bullock would be the perfect Stephanie but I love the idea of Lauren Graham as well. They are book funny and smart women who would do a great job.

NO WAY is Heigle the right person for this role. I agree, Lauren Graham or Sandra Bullock would be perfect. Debi Mazur did an excellent job with the Stephanie Plum audio books and would be great too.

The description of all the characters is crystal clear, I am dumbfounded. I hope for the sake of the books/future movies that Ms. Heigl proves all us doubters wrong.

ReplyDeleteKatherine Heigle is the right age about. And she did die her hair. And I do think she is funny. Definitely not who I would have thought of for the role. But they are making a Hollywood movie that they want everybody to see and I'm sure it will be good. Even if it is not what we thought when we read the books. I mean look at True Blood and Sookie Stackhouse books. So different and definitely NOT who I thought of as Sookie Stackhouse, but they are both good in and of themselves.

ReplyDeleteI think the cast should be mostly unknowns. Kind of like what they did with the Twilight series. All the characters are household names now but we could identify with them in the movie because we haven't seen them act in many movies previous to this.

Heigl is a good actor and I would like to see her in this role, I think to everyones dismay she'd probably do a good job. Lauren Graham is too old for the character.
And also, NOT. THE. ROCK. FOR. RANGER. even shemar moore wouldn't suit. Someone along the lines of Antonio Banderas.
Just have to weigh in that I think Heigl will do well with this role. She has the right sense of comic self deprecation. Ugly Truth wasn't a perfect movie but showed she can play awkward and get a laugh.

ReplyDeleteI questioned the role by Heigle, but she DOES have the charm and wit to pull it off. Bullock and Graham are natural choices because Bullock has done action films and Graham is a ntural for this type of comedy. Another post points out that both of the afore mentioned actresses are too old to play the part and I agree. It(the part of Plum) needs to be younger. And as a fan of the first novel in particular there is not much action as far as Stephanie is concerned, so let'give Heigle a chance. Nobody saw Cruise as a blonde vampire but he pulled it off(barely). The ones I want to see are the supporting characters. THEY were the ones that made me laugh out loud.......

Even if they dye her hair...WRONG--and I like her. but not for this. Oh well, I'll keep reading the series and skip the film. Better for my brain anyway!

ReplyDeleteI am not so sure about Heigel as Stephanie; I too, pictured someone with darker features. the Rock is not right for Ranger or Morelli. However, can't think of her name, but the woman who played Fran's grandmother in The Nanny series is who comes to mind for me as Grandma Mazur...she was funny. What about a Joe Pesci type character as Vinny, Stephanie's bonds bail cousin/boss?

ReplyDeleteKatherine Heigl is a decent actress and I could see her in a lot of different roles, but not this one. I love this series and no matter how she tries to play it, I don't think she can pull it off. She was chosen because she is gorgeous and the casting director is trying to appeal to the male demographic. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Anne Hathaway could easily play this role, as could Rachel McAdams. The casting director really should have read the books. There are a lot of female actresses out there who could have perfected this role. If only someone was smart enough to see it....

If this is really the choice, it must reflect Evanovich's growing conceit: I've really become increasingly annoyed with her interviews, and now she's selling out to ruin her best books with cheesy big Hollywood bad-acting. If only I could kick my Stephanie Plum addiction!
