Ferrante's Latest Novel to be Made into Netflix Series

The recent HBO adaptation of Elena Ferrante's international bestseller My Brilliant Friend brought even more attention to the beloved author of the Italian bildungsroman, and now her latest work, The Lying Life of Adults, has been pegged for a Netflix adaptation. Ferrante's new novel, like the Neapolitan Quartet, is set in Naples, Italy, and features a young woman on a journey of self-discovery. The Lying Life of Adults is gritty, gripping, and highly addictive...don't wait for the TV series to get your hands on it!

Beautiful Boy

David Sheff's touching memoir recounting the harrowing tale of his son's journey through addiction, adapted by Amazon Studios, is hitting the big screen this fall. Initially published in 2009, Beautiful Boy is the haunting and heartbreaking story of a journalist desperately researching ways to help, and a father that refuses to give up on his son. The Sisters Brothers Trailer

With over 150, 000 copies sold in Canada since it's release in 2011, The Sisters Brothers will soon be coming to a theatre near you. Eli and Charlie are (you guessed it) brothers. Immersed in a life of alcohol and violence, they follow Hermann Kermit Warm to his gold-mining claim outside San Francisco; along the way, Eli tries to make sense of his life in the face of the job he must carry out.

A new edition of the multi-award-winning title is coming out to coincide with the release of the film. Directed by Jacques Audiard and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, and John C. Reilly, The Sisters Brothers is dark, funny, absurd, and gritty. We can't wait!

Black Klansman Movie Trailer

Based on the novel of the same name (albeit spelled differently) Black Klansman tells the true story of Detective Ron Stallworth, Colorado Springs Police Department’s first African American detective. Upon discovering an ad in the local paper reaching out to anyone interested in joining the Ku Klux Klan, Stallworth responds with a yes, thereby launching himself into an incredible months-long undercover investigation.   

BlacKkKlansman is directed by Spike Lee and produced by Jordan Peele. Check it out in theatres August 10^th.

A Wrinkle in Time Takes Hollywood

55 years after its publication, Madeline L’Engle’s 1963 sci-fi masterpiece hits the screen! Exploding through social media since the release of its first teaser trailer, and with a dynamic cast featuring Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon, A Wrinkle in Time is poised to exceed its much deserved hype. Continuously printed since 1963, A Wrinkle in Time has been awarded the Newbery Medal, Sequoyah Book Award and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, and was runner up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. The film adaptation is due for release March 9^th, 2018. 

I know Hallowe'en is over but...

How cool is this! The hotel that inspired The Shining is being made into a horror museum. Stephen King tells a great story about staying at the hotel when he was inspired to write the book. I would love/be terrified to go there...some day!

Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever

Move over, Scrooge and the Grinch. There's another Christmas curmudgeon taking over our televisions this holiday season.

Internet sensation, Grumpy Cat (née Tardar Sauce), has just landed a movie deal with Lifetime! The live-action film, which has been described as "a little Home Alone and a little Die Hard," will be about a 12-year-old girl who can communicate with a pet-store cat. The script will be penned by Tim Hill and Jeff Morris, and shooting is set to begin this summer. The voice of Grumpy Cat, however, is yet to be cast.

Love Letters to the Dead Film Adaptation!!!!

Ava Dellaira's critically-acclaimed debut YA novel, Love Letters to the Dead (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) has been optioned for film by Fox 2000 and Temple Hill! The book was published April 2014 and follows the story of Laurel, a teenager who is given an assignment by her English teacher: write a letter to a dead person. She chooses to write to Kurt Cobain, who was around the same age as her sister was when she died. But Laurel doesn't stop there. She goes on to write a series of letters to a motley crew of deceased actors, musicians, and icons, through which bits and pieces of her past are revealed.

The producers attached to the project, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, have been involved with various YA book-to-film adaptations, including The Twilight Saga, The Maze Runner and, most recently, John Green's The Fault in Our Stars. Ava Dellaira will be writing the script.
