Happiness for Munro. . .

Congratulations to Alice Munro who has just won the 2009 Man Booker International Prize. This is only awarded every two years and celebrates not just one book, but an author's entire body of work. Munro once threatened that she was going to stop writing but fans needn't worry - her latest collection, Too Much Happiness, will be out in Canada at the end of August.

Previous winners of the International Prize include Ismail Kadare in 2005 and Chinua Achebe in 2007. Achebe will also have a new collection of essays out in October, entitled The Education of a British Protected Child and new Canadian editions of his novels will be published in January 2010.
