The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman won the 2009 Newbery Award earlier this year and on June 24th it was announced that the book had also been awarded the 2010 CILIP Carnegie Medal. With this announcement, Gaiman earned a place in the literary record book as the first author to be awarded both of these prestigious prizes for children's fiction for the same book! The Graveyard Book narrowly missed setting another record (3 major awards), as the book's illustrator Chris Riddell was shortlisted for the 2010 Kate Greenaway Medal.
